This week we are learning about the letter "M" and we're learning about "Mapas" (Maps- giving directions). The letter "M" is pronounced "Em-ay." We are also learning about México and Mario Molina. As we learn about giving directions on a map, we can also review colors, numbers, clothing, family members, and community places as we answer the question, "¿Dónde queda?" (Where is it located?). As you are driving to school or to different places in your community, see if your student can tell which direction they are going (to the right, to the left, straight). They can also talk about places they see along the way ("El banco queda a la derecha."- The bank is to the right.) This kind of daily language reinforcement is critical for fluency. Also ask about México (Señora Klassen used to live there!) and Mario Molina. What is the story that is told on México's flag? Why did Mario Molina win the Nobel prize?
On the website, students can watch the letter "M" video and play the "Mapa" game. It would also be great to go back and review the numbers, colors, prepositions, body parts, clothes, and places in the community vocabulary.
