This week, we will be celebrating “El Día de los Reyes” in Spanish class. This holiday occurs in Latin America on January 6 and is the favorite day of Hispanic children. In Latin American culture, the three kings are the ones who bring gifts to boys and girls by arriving by camel and leaving gifts in children’s shoes. We will be talking about these traditions and participating in a “king’s cake” celebration. Instead of a traditional King’s cake, we will be using vanilla Oreo cookies. One of the cookies will have a special gold coin hidden inside and the student who finds it will be crowned the “king” for the day. Students may eat the cookie when we are finished with the celebration, but they don’t have to to still be able to participate in the game.
We will also be watching a video about this celebration and making a special King's Day craft.
