We are continuing our study of celebrations in Guatemala by talking about Independence Day. We have watched videos that show that Guatemalan Independence Day celebrations are very similar to how we might celebrate the 4th of July in the United States. There are typically parades with marching bands and fireworks at night. The only differences are the flags (lots of light blue and white for Guatemala instead of red, white, and blue!) and the date (Guatemala's Independence Day is September 15.)
We saw that the flag of Guatemala has the date of their independence on a scroll right in the center. We are also practicing the names of the months in Spanish so that we can read dates like el 15 de septiembre- (Sept. 15!)
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
