It's the first "real" week of Spanish and we're jumping right into the curriculum! Here's what is going on:
PreK-1st grade: We talked about the letter "A" (not "ay," but "ah.") We met the letter "A" and his friends, "árbol, aguacate, avión, and alpaca." We traveled to Argentina and learned about the flag and the climate. We also met Antonio Banderas, an actor from Spain that your students might recognize as the voice of "Puss in Boots" and the dad in the movie, "Spy Kids." Finally, we learned about "HolA and Adiós." We can already have short conversations in Spanish!
To do this week: Watch the video, "Hola, Hola, ¿Cómo estás?" on the "PreK-1st" tab and be amazed at how well your students sing along!
2nd-3rd grade: We learned all about "La Casa" (The House). We learned about rooms and learned how to answer the question, "¿Dónde vives?" (Where do you live?) We found out that some students live in a "casa" and others live in an "apartamento." The students are doing a great job recognizing cognates (words in Spanish that sound like words in English) as they try to decipher Spanish sentences. We're also beginning to learn about our country of the month: Nicaragua. We got a cool stamp in our "pasaporte" this week!
To do this week: Watch the video "Descubre el Español Unit 1-1" video as a great review of what we did in class. Watch the video, "La Casa" and maybe try a few games for "La Casa."
4th-5th grade: We learned all about "Saludos" (Greetings). We learned how to meet someone, present someone new, how to ask "How are you?" (in lots of different situations- ask your student to explain the differences), and how to say good-bye. We had fun dressing up and practicing a dialogue. I'm speaking a lot of Spanish in class now and the students are following right along! We're also beginning to learn about our country of the month: Nicaragua. We got a cool stamp in our "pasaporte" this week!
To do this week: Watch the video "Descubre el Español Unit 1-1" video on the 4th and 5th grade tab as a great review of what we did in class. Watch the video, "Estar Song" and maybe try a few games for "Saludos." For a challenge, try taking the quiz for "Estar."
